Last year, we discovered that 97% of conductors were men. And then we realized that we didn’t really know what it was like to be a conductor.

So, for a year, we decided to follow Lucie Leguay in her daily life as a young female conductor, to find out what it was all about.

Highly acclaimed at a young conductors’ springboard in 2018, Lucie Leguay deploys her talents in several orchestras, including as assistant conductor of the Orchestre national d’Île-de-France, the Orchestre national de Lille and the Orchestre de Picardie.

Last but not least, it was Camille Ducellier who followed her and her team. A crack team, made up mostly of women. Louise and Flavia on sound and Camille Langlois on image. Auriane and Margaux on production. Ellie on DA. And Antoine on editing, so we still have a man on the team.

Director Camille Ducellier chose a vertical format. This strong aesthetic choice invites the viewer to change his or her view of classical music. The format gives full scope to the conductor’s gestures. It also allows for optimal viewing on smartphones. The series offers a true immersion into the world of orchestral conducting through Lucie’s various projects.

In five episodes following the different stages of her year, the series offers an immersion into the world of conducting through the eyes of a multifaceted young conductor.

CHEF-FE won the « Prix Nouvelles Ecritures » awarded by SCAM at FIPADOC 2020

« We chose the vertical web series « CHEF-FE » for its judicious use of a format designed for cell phones. We were won over by director Camille Ducellier’s choice to immerse us in the creative process of a woman conductor, both by the use of split screen and by the poetry created by the dialogue between images and sound. The perfect balance of form and content, made possible by broadcasting on smartphones, brings classical music to audiences of all generations. »
